Women’s Voices Egypt is hosted by AMFED as a part of the Speak Up Egypt project (2011-2014). AMFED, or “The Arab Media Forum for Environment and Development” is a non-profit, non-governmental regional Arab media organisation established in 1999 that seeks to empower, enable, and encourage the Arab media to address development issues through dialogue among media practitioners and other sectors of society.
AMFED believes that true reform cannot happen without well-informed citizens freely sharing information and knowledge, leading to a focus on enabling media and civil society actors to create a culture of dialogue as a way to reform society, always with a core focus on gender equality. Therefore, AMFED works extensively with media organisations and civil society organisations specialised in women related issues to work towards better representation of women and more coverage of women’s issues in Egypt’s media.
